Posted November 16, 2015:
Life is Greater

by Scott Eagan.

The hardest thing,
the thing I didn’t count on
in joining this big, apostolic family:
so many I love would die before me.

With every death
a part of me dies also.
The memories, the loss
are very heavy indeed.

All too often—
yet it is the Lord’s timetable—
we say goodnight to a brother, a sister, a father, a mother.
They fall asleep, trusting in Love’s mercy.

The only thing,
the thing that balances this pain,
nay, surpasses by far the separation,
is the life that was given,

The life we shared, the life we will share.
This Life is greater.
