These days of late spring, we are busy preparing for summer: for the summer program for young people, for Cana Colony, and for the gift shops, museum, and bookstore. This is definitely a joint effort: our benefactors provide the materials, God leads us step by step, and we of Madonna House pour our energy into it.
Our gift shop staff are asking for cleaning supplies such as Goo-Gone (a solvent), Dawn Dish Soap, Q-tips, WD-40, orange oil for cleaning wood products, and linseed oil.
They would also like to stock up on men’s watches with large easily readable dials for our men staff so that they can be on time for meals, prayers, Mass, etc., when they are working in outlying areas.
The farmers want to thank those who donated hay when we begged for it. They are also very grateful for the wheeled hoes; those weeds haven’t got a chance now!
St. Raphael’s Handicraft Center would be happy to receive circular knitting needles in small sizes (even size 00) for knitting socks, and white carbon paper. (It leaves a gray line, not black.)
The food processors are gearing up for canning and freezing the summer harvest. They are asking for something called, "tomato sharks." These are nifty little spoons with jagged teeth that scoop out cores easily and with less waste than knives do. We could use 5 to 8 of these.
The laundry needs Oxy-clean in powder form and an electric de-fuzzer for synthetic sweaters when they get pilled or gather lint. (We’re asking for electric in order to save on batteries.)
The infirmary is low on several items: long-lasting antihistamines such as Claritin or Reactine, muscle relaxants (Robaxacet or the equivalent), eye drops (two kinds: for allergies and for plain lubricating), and Band-Aids (regular and knuckle-type).
Our cleaning and grooming needs are basic this time. We need dental floss and non-scented (or barely scented) hand lotion and bar soap. Ivory soap, for example, would be good. (Several people here are allergic to scents.)
If you have an upright vacuum cleaner in working condition that you aren’t using, please send it to us.
Other items we need these days are: squeegees for washing windows, heavy-duty scratchy pads for scouring pots, and bottle brushes. Thanks for the tooth paste.
You have been keeping our office well-supplied. Thank you. This time they only need 8 ½ by 11 (good on both sides) paper for the begging letter and Scotch tape (both individual rolls and refill rolls for desktop dispensers).
Please send up your empty CD cases. MH Publications needs some and would appreciate them very much.
Even in the busy summertime, we continue to have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament daily except for Sunday. We pray for your intentions every day, asking Our Lord and his Mother to bless you in every way. Thank you for your tremendous support, and know that we count on your prayers as well.
In Our Lady of Combermere,
Susanne Stubbs and Mark Schlingerman (July-August 2013)
