by Linda Adams.
In a recent telephone conversation with my son, who is raising five sons, he said something that stunned me. He asked me not to send anything about God to his family, especially not to my grandsons.
I was speechless. How could I not share God when that is what my life is all about!
Then, after a few awkward moments of silence, my son told me that his father-in-law had told him and his wife that their sons know nothing about God, and that they need to do something about it.
My spirit rose. God will have his way. If I am not to be his mouthpiece, God will send someone else.
After hanging up the phone, I turned to God and asked, "What shall I do? I’ve always mailed his family books, CDs, greeting cards with messages of God’s love. Now I’ve been asked not to."
God spoke to my heart. He asked me to be his "agent incognito," his agent behind the scene. Pray for the family and he would do the rest.
I, of course, asked God what would happen. I do so like to be active in sharing my faith.
He replied in my heart, "Your family will draw closer to you, for they will think that you have become mellow. Just pray and see things happen according to my timetable."
The pressure fell off me, and my heart was at peace. I began to pray for my family, sometimes the rosary, sometimes calling on St. Michael the Archangel, sometimes praying in other ways, too.
A few days after that phone call, I received a call from my brother informing me that his son was in the hospital battling depression. I itched to go to the hospital to share Scriptures of deliverance and healing with him, and to send a Mass card. Then I remembered that I am God’s secret agent, praying behind the scenes.
So I prayed for my nephew. In a very short time, my brother called to say that all was "near normal." God had done his work! I was so excited.
This agent thing is a great job. I’m still waiting to hear good news from my son and his family. I know changes will happen. God is faithful to his word, and he is always ready to answer our prayers for our loved ones.
And while I am waiting, God has been bringing me many more people—family, friends, and neighbors—to add to my agent’s list.
Praying incognito is a breakthrough for me. I have learned that, regardless of where people are at in their lives, God does not need me to be directing them or telling them how to live. I can have such an impact on their lives without preaching!
Praying for God’s will and purpose to unfold in people’s lives and seeing God’s hand at work is awesome. I am seeing answers to my prayers. People are sharing with me about changes in their lives, and I just listen. And they are telling me that I have become mellow.
There is a new peace and harmony in their lives and in mine. God is so good.
