To implement God’s commandment, “Love one another as I have loved you”, here are some spiritual exercises to help you pass from a judgmental attitude, from negativity and fault finding in others (even when you’re ‘right’!) to tenderness and compassionate love.
l. The devil is involved in all evil. So say, “In the name of Jesus, depart from me, evil one, and go to the feet of Jesus.”
2. Remember your worst sin and compare it with the fault you have just found in your neighbor, and say the Jesus Prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, be merciful to me, a sinner.”
3. If you have been injured by someone, pray for the grace to forgive that person from your heart (Mt 18:35, Lk 11:4).
4. Pray: “Jesus, I love you with all my heart. Help me to love you more and more.” Say it over and over until the negativity disappears.
5. Pray: “O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto thine. Grant me the grace to see and love (name the person) as you do. Give me your heart with which to love (name).”
