Foundress of Madonna House, recipient of the Order of Canada and numerous awards, Catherine Doherty confounds the society she strove to improve. She is considered a saint and a prophet by some; a tyrant and a fraud by others. In this play, Catherine challenges the audience to decide, for themselves, who she is.
A Woman in Love is a one-woman play written and performed by Cynthia Donnelly, based on the writings of Catherine Doherty. It is a 70 minute journey into the heart of this amazing woman. The play has toured Canada, Britain and the United States.
“The play was a magical experience for me. I was moved to tears of laughter and sorrow as I gradually began to forget that I was in a theatre. It seemed as though I was face to face with Catherine... The play gave me a spiritual lift I haven’t experienced in a long time.” — Father John Catoir
Before joining the Madonna House Apostolate, Cynthia Donnelly worked professionally with the Indiana Repertory Theatre, The Hartford Stage Company, The New York Shakespeare Festival, as well as numerous Broadway and off-Broadway productions. Her film credits include work with directors Milos Foreman and Woody Allen.
