La Casa de Nuestra Señora
Winslow, Arizona

Winslow's Madonna House, also called La Casa de Nuestra Señora (The House of Our Lady), is among the first field houses opened by Madonna House. In 1957, Bishop Bernard Espelage of the Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico, invited us to open a field house in Winslow. The bishop requested that the staff assist in catechetics and perform the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

In the past 40 years, staff workers at “the Casa,” as we call it, have provided emergency food aid, a small library for the neighbourhood, and youth recreation. A clothing room was set up to meet the needs of surrounding families. The house also provided a meeting place for various 12-step groups, Scripture study, prayer groups and Cursillo groups.

Currently, one of the staff is co-ordinator of the teenagers for preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation as well as youth group events and study. We are also presently involved in teaching 3 to 6-year-olds the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-based approach to teaching the faith.

Daily life centers around Mass at the local parish, an hour of Eucharistic adoration, and the Divine Office.

As with all our houses, we live by donations. We are in one of the poorer dioceses in the U.S. Many are the stories of the Lord's providence over the years.

Our door is always open to welcome our neighbours near and far. Many come to talk and share their joys and sorrows, or to pray, or just to say hello over a cup of coffee. You are welcome to contact us.
