Madonna House At the invitation of Bishop Francis Lodonu, Madonna House Ho was founded in 1990 to offer the support of our prayers, friendship, and simple hospitality to those in need. It is under the protection and guidance of the Mother of God that we are sustained, and we believe it is she who invites and embraces all who come to this, her home.
Our life is one of prayer and work. As Christ in our Little Mandate directs us, “Pray always. I will be your rest.” Our call as Christians is to pray at all times. It is our work to pray for the intentions of our bishop, the Diocese of Ho, and, indeed, the whole Church in Africa.
We receive anyone who comes to us asking for prayers for their special needs, praying with them before the Blessed Sacrament in our chapel, leaving their desires and needs at the feet of our Lord.
Others come to pray in solitude and fasting in one of several poustinia rooms we have for that purpose. They may stay as long as 24 hours, interceding before God for their own needs and the needs of the world. We ourselves in our small community each spend one day a week in this way.
However, our life of prayer here, fed by the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, the Mass, and praying the Divine Office and rosary, is lived out in ordinary ways. The manual work that we do in our house and on our small farm — cleaning, cooking, weeding, etc. — is an expression of our love for God and all his children.
We welcome anyone who is interested in using our poustinia prayer rooms, or in participating in our family life of prayer and work for a given length of time to write or phone in advance. And of course we welcome anyone living in Ho or passing through to drop in at any time for a visit.
